HOT AIR RISES:
A response to Glenn McConnell

Glenn McConnell makes the startling claim in this article that Speak Up For Women (SUFW) and conservative politicians have lost the debate and are losing relevance.
We may forgive McConnell’s youthful hubris but his apparent ignorance of history and of contemporary realities is harder to excuse.
David Seymour’s offer to host the group’s meeting in parliament, and Ani O’Brien’s employment in the NP’s parliamentary staff, are used by SUFW’s opponents, to prove SUFW is right-wing.
Anti-TERF and anti-SUFW hyperbole has taken off in one of the steepest climbs of political rhetoric I’ve ever witnessed, and the hot air balloon shows no signs of running out of fuel, aided by the media’s mid-flight refuelling service.
It will eventually run out of fuel and/or political oxygen. Those who had the presence of mind to don parachutes before clambering aboard or grabbing a trailing mooring line, no doubt will deploy them the moment it starts to plummet earthward.
Glenn says society’s moving on – the younger generation is comfortable with diverse genders and is being brought up in an age of increasing social awareness. Gen Z is leading the way.
The obvious question is – where to? What brave new world awaits us? Are we to believe that the vast might of global corporate capitalism and the state machine it can command will be brought to its knees, tamed, and turned in a planet friendly and socially progressive direction if we all just embrace gender diversity?
Transgenderism has become a rallying point for an amorphous, largely directionless left-wing of a political spectrum that is proscribed by the prevailing, Neo-liberal world order. Transgenderists are part of Neo liberalism’s left-wing – i.e., the socially liberal wing of an economic and socio political world order which, in the traditional sense of the term, is trenchantly right-wing.
They do little to nothing to challenge the underlying order of things; in fact, they help disguise it by giving it a youthful glow and draping it in the rainbow flag. Let’s all pause for a moment to remember who used the term Rainbow Coalition first, what happened to him – and why.
